We did start school on Monday, but I just never got around to first day pictures! Wonder why?? So, here’s a picture from Zoe’s Science experiment. Our unit is on the Tower of Babel/building, etc. So, w gathered some samples of soil around our neighborhood. She glued some of them to paper to show how they’re different. Then we looked at how each type of soil compacted when you added water to it. Zoe enjoyed getting her fingers dirty! She didn’t like the way the red clay felt though.
Conversation while I was getting some baking done:
Ace: I’ve got a joke.
Zoe: Ace, you don’t know what a joke is. Do you know what a joke is?
Ace: No.
Zoe: It’s when you say, “Ya get it?”
Ace: Oh.
Zoe: Like when you say, “A penguin and a frog…ya get it?” That’s a joke! Ya got it?
Yes, I know her birthday was in December, but it was easier to wait and bring her in when Josiah had a check up. Liam had his turn in January since he was younger. So, this time it was Zoe’s.
She had a great check up. One shot and she was non to thrilled about it. But she was fine when she got to pick a toy from the birthday boxes. Her hemoglobin was great too. No big worries. Lots of great stuff. But then, I knew she was an awesome kid.
Oh and yesterday, she lost another tooth. She got to use her special tooth fairy pouch and she even drew a picture for the tooth fairy. I’ve heard the tooth fairy loved it!

Okay, here’s the set up: I was working on finishing up baby gifts for some friends (lots of friends) and the kids asked Mark if they could water paint…he let them. Here’s the results!
It took Liam a couple of pages before he realized that he was painting with only water. Mark’s so sneaky!

It’s Spring!!! I’m so excited, and so are the kids. They loved the warm weather today and we took advantage of it with a quick picnic at the park and a trip for our all time favorite ice cream. When we moved to this area (bc…before children) there were no parks. Now we have several to choose from and all are very nice for us and the kids.

“Cifford, mommy, Cifford.” Apparently, Clifford needed to hold Liam for a little bit.

I have discovered that we have one of “those” kids. You know, the ones that throw toys, objects, etc when they don’t get their way. He also hits. If you must need me to tell (like most of you can’t guess), it’s Liam. It’s mostly at tantrum stage that he starts this, so I really am at a lost what to do. He’s already broken a glass and toys because of this behavior. I asked the experts (okay, one, my mom) and they (she) didn’t have a clue what to do.
So, last night, we flipped through Creative Correction by Lisa Welchel to see how to thwart the behavior. One of her suggestions was to send him outside until he can change his attitude. This being done with the purpose of removing them from where they are getting attention (if I walk away from Liam he follows and continues).
I can’t really send Liam outside because he’ll play. I don’t like for them to go outside without me anyway. So, our solution is this (please don’t think me cruel). We set up the playpen in our closet and yes, it’s that big. When he starts a major tantrum, I send him there for a couple of minutes and then talk to him. So far, it’s working! I do give him a warning. I do not close the door or leave the light off. He’s just removed from the rest of the household and in a safe place.
Next up, Zoe and Ace have been using ugly words to each other. I’ve thought of this before but forgot about it until last night. So, when they use ugly words to each other they have to literally hold their tongue. “Keep your tongue from evil…” Psalm 34:13
And finally, Ace has been having a real hard time with his attitude and chores. I read in Creative Correction about adding chores to his list every time he pitches a fit about doing his jobs. These are extra jobs on top of his regular jobs. Needless to say, I have some clean windows and the living room is dusted! Mark’s getting help with the trash and Zoe got to skip carrying her clothes down for laundry day! I’m going to have some shiny windows out of all this since he can’t really do or reach a lot for his chores.
Just thought I’d share some new discipline strategies…life’s been a little bit easier around here today 🙂

this was a sick day for me, so Mark took the picture…I did fix the hair, but she had lots of flyaways!
And, because this is my blog and I can write about what I want…just gotta brag for a sec…Zoe is reading now!!! She’s got her short vowel sounds down and read Hop on Pop to me on Friday (minus the long vowel words). Liam is now counting to 10 with a little help and he knows most of his letter sounds (thanks to LeapFrog’s Letter Factory DVD).
Okay, so you can’t see it really well. When it comes out in March, I”ll make sure to scan it in and show everyone. Here’s our lovely model. She’s “Sleeping Beauty” in the pink.
Last night, Zoe told me her tooth was hurting her when she brushed. We knew it was getting loose because the dental dude noticed it at her last dentist visit. So, I tried to wiggle the one she said hurt. But, it didn’t budge. The one next to it, however, did! Aggghhh! I’ll take boogies and bloody knees over teeth or feet. Yuck. Besides that, my little girl is growing up.
My mom and Mark both remarked that she was too young to loose a tooth. I reminded my mom that my pre-k pics were of me with a big toothless smile. Oh yeah, she’s at that age isn’t she.
