February (and January) Randomness

I realized that I could go to handy dandy Facebook and pull up some of the photos from my phone since they were taken with Instagram.  Some of these are from January and some from February but we’ll just pretend they are all from February okay?

This was my nutty bar stash before the snow in January.  For some reason, I was really craving oranges and nutty bars all of January.

One of my best friends on a night out.  We were planning a Lilla Rose event and then we stopped at Wal-mart and got distracted by the bargain bins.  Yep. We party hard.  Don’t envy us.

These three ninjas started karate in February.  They took two lessons at the end of January to “earn” their white belt but the fun and cool thing was that they got to break a board with their foot.  They are quite fun to watch in class.  Ace is serious and very athletic.  Liam is focused (I kid you not) and the loudest and then there is Josiah.  He is all smiles as he hits targets and yells and does his version of push ups.

Our trail adventure as mentioned in the previous post about ice.

Malachi loves to hold the hymnal during worship.  Such a little man.

Those are handbells and we are actually practicing (well practice was over so they were ringing them…loudly).  The Bible says to make a joyful noise.  See those smiles.

See, we did have warm days.  Sometimes all you need to play outside is a diaper, your sister’s rainboots and a wooden sword.

Snow Day 2014

Yes, we were hit not only with a polar vortex (new to me phrase) at the first of the year, we were also blessed with our snow day for the next seven years (we hope).  This was a classic southern snow for us:  Here one day and gone the next.

We got about an inch and half and it was enough to play in and keep Mark home from work.  Perfect.  And a bonus was no loss of power (which we lost when the cold came through but that was only for an hour or so).

After breakfast we walked the neighborhood and the kids enjoyed sliding down a neighbors hill on a real sled.  FYI, a tote box top does not work well for sliding in one and half inches of snow.

They were so ready to play and so ready to come back in too.  It was very cold outside.

Our snowman!  He looks so tall…

but really, he’s sitting on the picnic table in the back yard.  I wish I had grabbed a picture of a neighbor’s snowman.  After it was built (over six feet tall), their yard and another yard were free from snow.

Snowball fight.
Our first snow in this house.

Baking Day

November done.  On to December.  Kristina and I decided to have a baking day with the kids at the start of December.  That’s eleven kids and two moms and lots of sugar.
 And lots of helpers!
I finally decided we would try our hands at dipping pretzels.  This was a great activity for all the kids to do and surprisingly not too messy.

After awhile, the boys had to venture outside.  In the misty rain.
And the two older girls had to braid their hair.  Together.

November Randomness

Last year, our church purchased a property that included an outbuilding, three acres of land, and a large house.  We have been renovating it (members mostly) since August.  It’s slow going and for good reason.  Our goal is to get it done without acquiring another loan.  So, work progresses as finances come in.  I praise God that there are several skilled men and women in our church who are able to provide the labor (and lunches) for the work that needs to be done.

In the meantime, we are meeting in homes.  Another big praise, is that our home (and thankfully neighbors) are more than accommodating.  We’ve all now settled in to a pattern where we divide up the meeting space with another family that has a larger great room area.

We love having a beautiful and talented pianist every time we meet at our house.  Our piano gets played and Malachi gets serenaded.

Bryant’s hair when we are trying to grow it long for the winter.  There is no hope that mop will lie down until it grows longer.

Um yeah…this is Josiah.  He acts just like his dad.

I had to post two because, well.  He’s adorable.  We attended a Thanksgiving party with our local homeschool care group.  The kids had a blast and Malachi wanted to see the “big tuck.”
