Look at my Shiner

As we left church so cheerily on Sunday night, Zoe was swinging her bag (because she was mad that she wasn’t getting her way) and Liam was walking behind her. Consequently, Zoe walloped Liam with her bag, smacking him right in the eye. I took him inside to see if she had actually hit the inside of his eye. I noticed a little blood in the tears so I started to go back to get a paper towel and ran smack into our pediatrician, Dr. B. I love Providence and Dr. B! She looked at it but didn’t think it had actually hit the eyeball, just around it. His eye was nice and swollen before I even finished talking to her, so I headed back to get a little ice. I thought I’d share (for the grandparents) a picture of Liam’s first nice black eye.

Update: I wrote this post on Sunday night thinking that his eye would turn black…but it didn’t (hooray). Instead, Josiah decided to take a nose dive (or rather lip dive) down some concrete steps at a Valentine’s day party at a friend’s house. I haven’t got a picture of his fat upper lip, but will get it tomorow and post it…it’s a beauty!!

Consignment Time

I did not participate…that is to say, I did not consign, any clothes in our Fall consignment because I couldn’t really move far from the couch (being that I was still in my first trimester). But, I am consigning this time. And it means it’s time to pull the clothes down from the attic and make a magical guess as to what size the youngers are going to be and to drive Zoe crazy with trying on everything she wore last year to see if it still fits and guess her size.

Now, I bag the clothes. It’s easy and has worked for us. But I forget that EVERY SINGLE TIME we get the bags out of the attic the boys (and Zoe sometimes) think that they are exclusively for their entertainment purposes and proceed to move them around and jump on them. Aggghhhh!

So this morning has commenced the:

“Do not jump on those!”

“Those are not toys!”

“Stop climbing on the bags…those are CLOTHES!”

Okay, I can get through this week and should be done tagging by this weekend. I hope.

Our Annual Raking Leaves

Taking advantage of the beautiful spring like weather this weekend, we embarked on our annual leaf raking adventure. The kids all had to help but we only had two rakes, so Mark pulled out a broom for Liam…he swept our yard! Anyway, after some raking, I suggested Mark call a friend and ask to borrow their leaf blower. He called. And within about 20 minutes, he was able to get the leaves up to rake in to large piles. Unfortunately, his transportation method broke and there are three piles of leaves in the yard that still need to be moved…but at least they’re (mostly) out of the yard.

Josiah got to sweep the yard some.
But then decided his “bu bu” was a better read.

Taking a break from raking to have a little sword fight.
Taking a break from raking to have a leaf fight (there were a lot of breaks).

Ahh, now the work begins.

“Fighting” the leaves from the leaf blower.

Liam has a “sword.”

Sweeping the leaves some more.

And finally, enjoying hard work by jumping in the pile!

Sometimes at night…

At breakfast on Friday, Ace began talking to Zoe. Now, mind you, I was in the room and heard the whole conversation.

Seriously, he turns to Zoe.

Ace: Zoe, sometimes at night, when Daddy is not in the room and Josiah’s awake, we whisper to each other.

Zoe: Okay.

Me: That’s fine, Ace. You can play as long as you stay in bed and are quiet.

Ace: Yes ma’am. And Zoe, sometimes at night, when Daddy is not in the room and Josiah’s asleep, I open his eyes and play with his eyeballs.

Me (stifling a laugh): Okay, maybe we shouldn’t do that because that would wake Josiah up or you could hurt him. How ’bout you just whisper to Liam instead?

So there!

Josiah’s had a runny nose for almost two weeks now…chronic runny nose and then we noticed on Thursday that he had a lot of ear wax coming out of one of his ears. So, to be on the safe side, and to get rid of the obvious sinus infection, I took him in to the doctor on Friday.

As we waited to be called back the kids entertained themselves with the new video game and the tv. They were quiet and having a generally fun time. There was one other family in there with sick child/ren and that was it. So, when they called Josiah’s name, the sick room cleared out.

The grandmother who was with the mom (because she had like two children and that’s just too much to handle at the doctor’s office…sorry for the digression and sarcasm…but seriously…needing help with two children at the doctor’s office…come one!) had to remark, “Oh my gosh…are they all with you?! Bless your heart. They sure are good.” See, when they called Josiah back I said his name and all four got up and left the room without whining or complaining. They know the routine, we’ve been there so often!

I was nice and just smiled a little smile and shephereded them to the nurse. As we walked out of the room, however, Josiah turned around and blew them a big ol’ kiss!

I don’t have to say anything now…they’ll do it for me! He, he, he!

Just a few things…

1. No one has thrown up in over 24 hours! Let’s keep it going kids…or not really going…I mean staying down…yeah, that sounds better.
2. I need an explanation as to why an item I purchased and was shipped on January 14th is still not here. It was shipped priority mail with delivery confirmation that states it’s sitting in a warehouse in Atlanta…and has been there since January 15th. Can anyone say most frustrating??? They get until February 15th and then I’m calling it quits and eating my money (since USPS won’t do anything) and getting another (it’s Ceili Rain’s cuddly and one for back up) somewhere else and not having it shipped through USPS!
3. Still no news on what we are going to do about our adoption and country. Lots of praying going on there…which for me is hard since I want to know now, right now, what God wants us to do (big sign with bright flashy lights would work great!). But we’re praying and waiting…
4. Why is it that on Mondays my children think that pulling out all toys and scattering them across all rooms is okay…just Mondays mind you. And that when I say, “School Time” it means scream and yell and cry and be generally grumpy…this is all on Mondays, now…the rest of the week we’re good to go!

Here We Go Again!

Ace got up this morning saying his tummy was hurting. Translated it usually means, “I didn’t like what we were having for supper so I didn’t eat and now I’m really, really hungry.” Turns out, this time, that it really meant, “My tummy is hurting and I’m going to throw up the minute something touches it.”

Which is what he did for a few hours this morning. By lunch time he was much better and ate his breakfast and his lunch. It took us awhile to get him up from nap and he picked at supper and said his tummy was hurting a little bit but right now he’s running around the house in pjs waiting on his “purple juice” and ready to watch some of the Super Bowl before everyone gets back from Awana.

So now the question on my mind is…who’s next??? We shall see…
