I just can’t get over how fast Zoe is growing up. Today we were getting ready for the gym and she came up to me with her shoes tied!!! She had done it all by herself. They were loose but they were tied none the less. Then she launched into a critique of her work and informed me of all the ways it was and was not done right…first born!

Pumpkin Carvin’ Time
Monday we got around to carving our pumpkins from the pumpkin patch. Yes, we got pumpkins for each person in the family. We all picked out what kind of face we wanted to put on the pumpkin. Mark chose goofy. I chose a sleepy one (that’s how I was feeling on Monday). Zoe chose a cat. Ace wanted a mean face (not sure why). And we chose a basic triangle/square face for Liam. Josiah’s didn’t get carved on account of it was too small for us to do. But I painted a face on Josiah’s with markers.
Josiah’s Four Months
Josiah had his 4 month check up on the 29th. Here’s his stats:
16 lbs. 14 oz. (85%)
27 3/4 inches tall (79.7%)
17 1/2 inches head (94%)
Maybe a big head means big brains!!! Just like his daddy. Anyway, he was doing good. She upped his reflux medicine based on his weight and since he is still spitting up she didn’t think it was a good idea to discontinue it until the spit up slows down. He averages about two to three spit ups a day…or more depending on what’s going on and what I’ve eaten. Not much else to report. He laughed a lot at Dr. B and barely cried through his shots. Such a brave baby!
It’s that time of year
Josiah woke up this morning with a fever. He started with congestion last night and then it ballooned into a fever. Because I couldn’t remember when the hospitalization cut off was, I took him in to see Dr. B. She said it’s 2 months and under for fevers…for future reference for me.
His temp was down by the time we got to the office and he’s acting great. Just very congested but no wheezing and she felt that it wasn’t RSV because it’s a little early for that. So, we’ll give it the standard 2 weeks and if he’s not better or gets worse then we’ll take him back in.
Liam’s had the runny nose since Sunday and she did a quick check of his ears but he was all clear.
Lots of trusting in God today. Ace was 4 weeks old when he was hospitalized with a fever and it turned out to be viral meningitis. So, my nerves were on edge and I was really praying. I felt much better when Josiah’s temp went down on its own.
Like Father, Like Daughter
Mark is not a big fan of throwing things away. This includes socks, underwear and shirts that have holes in them. I’m not talking little hole either…great big giant holes where your whole foot is sticking out. He sees no point in throwing them away until they are simply a thread.
Well, this weekend as we were getting ready to leave the house, I was helping Zoe with her shoes. I noticed she had a pretty good sized hole in her socks and pointed it out to her.
“But mommy, no one will see it. ” she replied.
Like father, like daughter!
Reflecting on Kids
I made the comment to Mark this afternoon how I thought it kind of interesting how we ooh and aah over every little thing Josiah does like we haven’t seen it three other times. I guess we both are amazed at God’s handiwork and how precious these little ones are to us.
Getting ready for Halloween, so I’ll give hints as to what the kids are going to be:
Zoe will be representing her favorite fruit, although she won’t be dressed exactly like her favorite fruit.
Ace does not want to grow up and it’s very hard for him to make up his mind.
Liam will be looking for buried treasure or sailing the seven seas.
Josiah is carrying on our dressing up tradition for the first Halloween.
So, vote in my polls to take a guess and I’ll reveal the answers on October 31st 🙂
Just a Josiah Picture
He really enjoys his swing because of the animals that await him. He’s starting to reach out more and today, I put him on his belly and he quickly rolled over. I’m enjoying watching him grow and smile so much. He loves his brothers and sister and will smile at them in a heartbeat. They’ve figured out that he’ll smile almost instantly if you “cluck” your tongue. I caught him trying to “cluck” his tongue today.

Presenting Ace and the Puppet Show…
Sue the T. Rex
We took a trip to the museum of Natural History near where we grew up this past weekend. We met up with Abbie’s sister and her two kids for a very adventurous trip. Of course, my kids fly threw exhibits and as you start to tell them about one thing they’re bouncing off of that exhibit on to the next one. It’s quite fun. The museum actually had a to scale replica of the t. rex that is on exhibit at the Field Museum. Knowing that we were heading to a “secular” museum, I downloaded information about the t. rex named Sue from Answers in Genesis. Armed and ready, we were able to present our belief in the Creationist theory and how no theories have been proven…including the evolution theory. Zoe enjoyed looking for the different parts of Sue that were noted in what we had already learned.
On that note, Zoe’s been asking me what happened to the dinosaurs, and since I’m not good with Science, I haven’t really brushed up on the subject. It just so happens that Dr. Ken Ham will be coming to our church the first of next year. So, I kept telling them to save up their questions and ask Dr. Ham when he came for a visit. When we left the museum, Ace kept asking me why we didn’t ask Dr. Ham about the dinosaurs, etc. He has no concept of time which is really driving me crazy because he wakes up every morning asking me if he’s four yet (he’s really dreading the 4 year shots).
