My Blankie

Josiah and Liam received these blankies in the mail today from Ge. They were both so excited about them! Josiah had to take his nap holding on to it (I wouldn’t lay it on him because it’s so hot!). Thanks bunches Ge! They must have felt your love because they’ve been cuddling with them all day!

And I do mean nap, not naps. I put him down about 15 till one…he didn’t really start acting tired until around 11:30 and then it was too late for a morning nap, so I fed him and changed him and laid him down. Not a baby much longer.

Oh, we’ve figured out the reason he’s not walking much is because when he does try, he runs…can’t go far if you haven’t figured out how to walk yet!

Are You God?

As we were leaving church today, we passed our family minster (missions minister and other things). Mark was holding Liam. He waved to us and we said, “Hi.”

Liam looked at him and asked, “Are you God?”

Bro. T just smiled and said a lot of people think that but definitely not. We all were laughing as we walked away. That reminds me of Ace’s comment about our pastor, L, when he was about that age. We were watching a video of Liam’s baby dedication time, and we asked Ace who that was standing up.

His reply, “God.”

An apology and Liam’s Potty Humor

Apparently, when I posted the video below, the referral links were not very, how shall we say, “Christian.” And that’s putting it mildly. I deeply apologize. I did not even realize it was there until I got a call from my mom-in-law…thanks for letting me know Grandmere. I’ve changed it to a different video post and should only show politicians after the video…umm, that might be a little scarier.

Okay, now to some funny stuff. Liam goes “occasionally” in the potty. #1 that is. #2 is great. No accidents on that end (pun semi-intended) for a week now. He does stand up because he likes to make bubbles.

Now, when he goes #1 in the potty, he studies it for a little bit and announces, “I see Elmo and a toe in the potty.” The other day, he told me he saw a dinosaur and a frog. Then when he flushes it, he has to tell whatever he has seen in his potty bye.

I’m okay with that as long as he doesn’t say, “I see Jesus.” Then we’re back to The Visitation! And that would be really weird.

Which brings me to a little more on The Visitation is a great book by Frank Peretti. Fox Faith has made it into a really good movie but very scary (at least for me). Good book, though.

Not doing too good…

Liam’s potty training is pretty much…how shall I say…down the toilet! He’s not quite there but I’m not giving up. He goes quite frequently on the potty but he can’t keep his pants dry nor does that seem to disturb him…all we’ve got is time though.

My ear started bothering me last night and continued through the night. By morning, I realized that I was getting an infection and trekked to the doctor with three semi-obedient children and a grumpy baby. After waiting 2 hours, Liam decided he didn’t like my “shoe stays on when we’re out” rule and kept taking them off and pitching a fit…we got in a room and seen quickly 🙂

Ace has a new saying that he made up all on his own. We’ll call it his “mantra” or “motto” although he rarely lives by it: We get what we get and we don’t pitch a fit. A little explanation: Ace has this attitude that he should receive everything he wants exactly how he wants it. Not sure where that came from because we don’t give in to whining or complaining, but it’s there. So if he doesn’t get what he wants he thinks that he can scream and yell and call us names to get what he wants. Again, that doesn’t happen. After having one of those fit pitching episodes at Wal-Mart today, he started saying that. I like it…we’ll use it 🙂

And for those non-Southerners…pitching a fit means a temper tantrum!

Adventures in Potty Training, Day One

Okay, so with this being spring break, I thought I would try to focus on getting Liam to use the potty. He’s got the concept down pat…he still doesn’t understand that he needs dry pants, though. So, with Monday being busy (I’ll post on that in a while) and Tuesday was errand day…that marked today as our starting point.

And…the results are…he’s had one accident. I started him off in Thomas the Train undies and that was when he had his accident. After that it was freedom time! He was going when he needed to and telling me when he had to go. I very rarely reminded him, but mostly he felt it and ran! I’m excited he’s done so well. So far, it’s just #1 not #2 yet.

My only concern…going out in public… as far as I know walking around without pants on is a faux pas in this area! So, I have three to four days to really work on it with him and get him undies!

Oh, and Josiah had roseola (well, he still has it). Roseola is a virus that shows up in a fever with no other symptoms. The fever lasts three to four days then AFTER the fever the baby breaks out in a rash. Ace has had it, and so I knew what was going on when I saw a rash on his belly yesterday morning. I called the doctor’s office to confirm. He just threw us off because he was getting over a cold along with the fever. The rash is not painful and in no way bothers him. It’s not even contagious…it just looks bad. So far, the rash is staying on his trunk area.

And…he’s got his eighth tooth in! We found it last night. He’s been in much better spirits today and he slept well last night…phew! Four teeth in less than a week is a bear! I’m praying for a break in the teething for now. He can handle lots of food with eight teeth.

Liam…the Night Demon??

Okay, it’s not what you think.

As we were finishing up our Truth Project meeting last night, a couple (one that’ s engaged) asked to borrow our baby name book. She was flipping through names and calling them out.

“Lillith means Night Demon.”

“Euww,” we said, “Not that one.”

About that time, we heard a loud growl and charging down the hall is Liam with sword and play gun. He took a big football stance and growled at all of us with sword and gun waving. Right on his heels was another couple’s child with a slightly quieter growl.

What timing! Priceless!

Painting…

Okay, here’s the set up: I was working on finishing up baby gifts for some friends (lots of friends) and the kids asked Mark if they could water paint…he let them. Here’s the results!
It took Liam a couple of pages before he realized that he was painting with only water. Mark’s so sneaky!
Zoe the “artist”
Ace hard at work with Black! It’s a dark world he lives in sometimes.

To the Park We Go

It’s Spring!!! I’m so excited, and so are the kids. They loved the warm weather today and we took advantage of it with a quick picnic at the park and a trip for our all time favorite ice cream. When we moved to this area (bc…before children) there were no parks. Now we have several to choose from and all are very nice for us and the kids.
Liam going at life with gusto!
Zoe making friends, of course!
Just hangin’ out.

On the Hunt and More…

We traveled to downtown to go on an Easter Egg Hunt. Zoe and Ace really got into the hunt and loved grabbing up eggs. Liam, not so much. I think he thought it was too much like “clean up time.” And so, he protested the whole idea. He liked seeing that there were prices (junk) in the eggs but only wanted to get that out, not actually pick up eggs. After going on the hunt, we went to Fort Discovery. It’s a National Science Museum and we all had such a good time. We only got to play on one level because the elevator was broken and if you think I’m lugging two kids in a double stroller up stairs…you’re crazy! Oh, Zoe and Ace wanted to get their picture made with “the bunny” as they called him. They had no clue who he was supposed to be. Personally, I find a mutant bunny to be a little scary. Oh well.

Zoe and Ace searching for the perfect egg.

“What am I supposed to do??”

At Fort Discovery…

“Cifford, mommy, Cifford.” Apparently, Clifford needed to hold Liam for a little bit.

Creative Correction

I have discovered that we have one of “those” kids. You know, the ones that throw toys, objects, etc when they don’t get their way. He also hits. If you must need me to tell (like most of you can’t guess), it’s Liam. It’s mostly at tantrum stage that he starts this, so I really am at a lost what to do. He’s already broken a glass and toys because of this behavior. I asked the experts (okay, one, my mom) and they (she) didn’t have a clue what to do.

So, last night, we flipped through Creative Correction by Lisa Welchel to see how to thwart the behavior. One of her suggestions was to send him outside until he can change his attitude. This being done with the purpose of removing them from where they are getting attention (if I walk away from Liam he follows and continues).

I can’t really send Liam outside because he’ll play. I don’t like for them to go outside without me anyway. So, our solution is this (please don’t think me cruel). We set up the playpen in our closet and yes, it’s that big. When he starts a major tantrum, I send him there for a couple of minutes and then talk to him. So far, it’s working! I do give him a warning. I do not close the door or leave the light off. He’s just removed from the rest of the household and in a safe place.

Next up, Zoe and Ace have been using ugly words to each other. I’ve thought of this before but forgot about it until last night. So, when they use ugly words to each other they have to literally hold their tongue. “Keep your tongue from evil…” Psalm 34:13

And finally, Ace has been having a real hard time with his attitude and chores. I read in Creative Correction about adding chores to his list every time he pitches a fit about doing his jobs. These are extra jobs on top of his regular jobs. Needless to say, I have some clean windows and the living room is dusted! Mark’s getting help with the trash and Zoe got to skip carrying her clothes down for laundry day! I’m going to have some shiny windows out of all this since he can’t really do or reach a lot for his chores.

Just thought I’d share some new discipline strategies…life’s been a little bit easier around here today 🙂
