Happy 8th Birthday, Liam!

Liam had a built in birthday party with his cousins visiting!  Fifteen kids, four adults and lots of laughs and smiles.
That’s one excited birthday boy and brother.
Liam finding out he was going to be taking martial arts classes.

He requested a cheetah chocolate cake with caramel frosting.  We opted for a cheetah den and lots of plastic cheetahs on it.  He liked it even though there were lots of cave ins.

Happy 11th Birthday Zoe!

Here comes some sad news.  My cellphone went for a swim.  And didn’t come out alive.  On it were pictures from December.  You know the ones…the ones I took with my phone because I didn’t have my camera.  Fortunately, all other months pictures had been gotten off…just not the ones from December.  If my phone is able to be repaired (if you know me, you’ll know that Mark got insurance on my phone…smart man), and the pictures were not damaged, then I will make sure to post those.  If not, trust me…we had a lot of fun on these next few posts.
Zoe’s birthday in December was a ton of fun.  We celebrated with family on her actual day and then traveled that weekend to visit family and then celebrated with friends on that Monday.  She wanted to go bowling.  We live quite near a military fort and they have a bowling alley open to the public.  On Mondays, they offer cheap bowling and cheap food.  So, we rallied her friends and played a couple of games of bowling and ate cake.  It was both fun and yummy.  And we all got a kick out of the little ones trying to carry a big ol’ ball to roll.
Opening presents…That’s one excited young lady.

She got her first ever charm bracelet and was thrilled.  Especially since she couldn’t really think of what she wanted for her birthday.

Scouring pinterest, Zoe came up with this for her cake.  It’s a chocolate cake with mint chocolate chip buttercream icing.  Was it yummy?  Oh my goodness it was.  The cake was my standard chocolate cake but the icing was so fluffy and good.  And I don’t like mint chocolate chip anything.

Off we go on an Edventure

This past year, I requested a ban on actual toys for the kids.  I know I’m mean.  But seriously, some of you did not see all these toys and such we moved.  So, Ge and Granddaddy gifted the kids with a membership to a children’s museum near them.  They also gave them a bunch of toys (I’m not a Scrooge, peeps).

Well, the museum has reciprocity to several museums across the nation.  One happens to be even closer and it’s one we’ve been to before.  We’ve always enjoyed it.

So, for Liam’s birthday celebration, he requested a trip to Edventure.  We happily obliged.  They had a special exhibit called Snowville.  The last time we had been to that exhibit they had fake snow.  We got the kids super excited this time that there would be snow indoors.  Well, we were wrong.  No snow this time.  But the day and the evening activity (more on that later) more than made up for it.

We were super excited to see all the wonderful improvements Edventure has made to their exhibits and the kids totally enjoyed themselves!

From grocery shopping…

To peach pickin’ at the farm…

 Processing milk…

Building things and operating “heavy” machinery…

 Scaling snowcapped mountains…
 Tubing in the “snow.”
 Shooting the luge…

Is this not the funniest picture?
 A trip to the dentist…
 Dress ups and
Human puppets (that’d be Malachi the “puppet” in the far corner of the picture)
And no trip is not complete without braving exploring Eddy, the two story eleven year old boy (you can climb inside him and see what he had for lunch, etc).
After our Edventure trip, our real adventures didn’t end.  It was off to eat at Fudrucker’s (a real treat, especially with the amazing drink machine that I didn’t get a picture of) and then to…well, this post is long already and will just have to wait until tomorrow.

Happy Birthday Liam!

Yes, I know we’re almost at the end of January but a month behind is not too bad.

Liam turned 7 in December.  I can’t believe it.  I started blogging the summer after he was born so that means this blog is nearing 7 years.  Agghhh!

Anyway, my rambunctious passionate kid is growing up.  We still have our moments (days/weeks) but he is an amazing kid and we know God has big plans for this little man.

He requested a chocolate cake with blue icing and Hobbit Legos, no wait, Pirate Legos, no wait, Ninjago Legos…I finally found a fun pirate game with Legos.  That satisfied him.  And it fit with the blue icing.

He got to celebrate birthday early at Ge & Granddaddy’s when we traveled there for Christmas.  And he never complained about getting an extra present.

This year is going to be full of fun and challenges, I just know it (especially since it’s already started).  We continue to pray and seek God’s wisdom as we raise this little man who is so full of energy and life.

Double Digits! Oh my!

Zoe turned ten last month!  Be still my heart.  I keep looking at her thinking about the little baby, toddler, girl, she was and then I blink and see the young lady she is becoming!

We joined pinterest last year.  And by “we,” I mean Zoe and I.  It’s all too common for us to sit and oogle over the pinned items and for her to call out something she wants me to pin.

Her birthday cake was one of the first pins we had.

Yep. A tie dye cake. My sweet girl is all about colors and this was her request way back in our early pinterest days.

I was excited to try it but definitely a bit apprehensive.

But, try I did.  Here’s the result:

We did a funky design on top hoping it would mix in to the cake.  It didn’t much but it was still fun to do.  I used a home made cake recipe and next time I’ll double it for a two layered round cake to make the layers thicker.

Here’s the top.  Gel colors.  So cool.

The inside.  Soooo yummy!  I also found a great buttercream icing recipe that didn’t require shortening (blech).

She voted for a duct tape party and the girls made headbands!

 The boys’ were not impressed.

Zoe got a Lilla Rose clip of her very own.  She was pumped!

We traveled on her actual birthday so she had two celebrations.  Grandmere made some yummy cupcakes and presents were at both sets of grandparents’ homes!
