Daddy’s Day Out

Last Saturday, we realized would be the last warm weather day for the week, so Mark took Zoe and Ace with him to a local area/walking trail to ride scooters and bikes. However, when they got there, Zoe had a hard time with the scooter and loose rock and Ace’s bike tires were completely flat. So, they just walked around and looked at some cool things! I think they both enjoyed that time with Dad, especially when he stopped and got ice cream on the way home.

A small waterfall near the dam.
This is just a beautiful area. Mark and I biked this trial back in May and it was just as pretty then.
Our two adventurers!
Ace spotted this in the water…alligator???

Look closer and you’ll see that it’s a…

…branch sticking up out of the water…pretty neat optical illusion provided by God! It even has an eye!

Umm, Happy New Years!

Still trying to catch up on pictures and realized I didn’t post of the kids playing with sparklers on January 1st. Tracy and Kevin came over and it just so happened that we had sparklers left over from their wedding! Josiah got in on the act this time and thoroughly enjoyed himself. It was fun watching the near misses and almost pokes of fire from each of the kids…no really, it was!

Josiah with sparkler in hand! Don’t try and take it away either. He likes fire!!
Just some fun pictures of our light show. I think this is Zoe’s work with Kevin behind her.

He’s making this face because Mark was trying to move the stick further up so he wouldn’t get burned. Bad daddy!

On guard! Yes, Liam and Ace thought it’d be fun to sword fight with them.
More cool sparklers fun!

Family Pictures

We get family pictures done every year. I would love to be one of those mom’s who does the pictures like every six months, etc…but we just can’t afford it. I have a friend who told us about Portrait Innovations a few years ago and we willingly make a trek to one each year as the pictures turn out awesome and they are very reasonably priced. Recently one opened up where my parents live, however, we could not get schedules to coincide with going there so we had to travel to another one! They take a ton of pictures and Mark and I were really brave in letting the photographer know what we wanted this year. Without further ado…the pictures.

I just pulled these from our cd, so I didn’t get a chance to crop any…sorry!

This year, we picked out pictures to keep that really went with each child’s personality. However, there was some other really good ones I wanted to share. I’ll point out the ones we actually bought, though as wall pictures (since they’ll go up on the wall for a year!).

Zoe’s picture to go on the wall!

I’ve always wanted a picture of her twirling since that’s what she loves doing!

Contemplative…we didn’t choose this one because she was playing with her wiggly front tooth…I still like it though.

Ace’s flirtatious wall picture!

We just had to get this one. I think I’m going to put it up in the boys’ room.

Does this say All-American or what???

My football lover!

Liam’s wall picture…gotta have that mischievous grin.

The, “What did I do now???” look

Full force loveable boy (and our wall picture)

Yeah, he was a challenge to sit still…but he liked this rocking chair so we threw it in.

Aren’t they beautiful!?! I love my kids and all the great photographers at Portrait Innovations.

Stay tuned for the football story and maternity pictures!

And back to Ace

Happy Thanksgiving first of all! We’ve had a nice time at home. The kids were all well enough to enjoy our meal of turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, watergate salad, and green beans. They all ate without complaining and even got some apple cake for dessert. After lunch, we headed out to get our Christmas tree in anticipation of being out of town this weekend for dad’s football game and visiting family.

However, after naptime, Ace started looking puny and his temp was going back up. Needless to say, our plans have changed and we’ll enjoy a weekend at home getting the house ready for Christmas and finishing up “the girls’ room” for Zoe and Ceili Rain (except when I went to Micheal’s this evening, I couldn’t find three ‘i’s for her name on the door…that’ll come later).

We’re flexible and pretty much used to someone getting sick on the holidays…so it’s not that big a deal.

I hate missing my dad’s game. If they win, this will be his 300th career win. This is also the team that knocked them out of the playoffs in the quaterfinals and this is the quarterfinals. It should be a really good game and a good challenge for his team. I told my mom to call me after every quarter so we can keep up with the score! I’m also going to try and find a way to listen on line. Ain’t the internet great!!?

Still Dealing

We’re still in the midst of the sickies. Ace was pretty okay all day yesterday. Temp only got up to 99.6 and came down on its own. He woke up this morning saying he still felt bad, which to me meant he was wanting some sympathy words and treatment. At least that’s what I thought. He climbed on the couch after breakfast and proceeded to distribute his breakfast contents all over the couch. I got a towel pretty quickly (but not before he had finished) and rushed him off to a bathroom. Then, I tried to start cleaning up the mess.

My gag reflex is in full gear with this pregnancy and I didn’t quite make the clean up before I got sick too. Ughh!

I did get Ace in the shower and the couch wiped down, though. It’s easier to do on an empty stomach.

I also got a puke bucket ready (you know, a plastic trashcan that’s been cleaned out…I’m so sympathetic to the sick) and planted him back on the couch. He’s gotten sick one more time (but hit the bucket) and now his stomach is empty. He even told me he was done throwing up. We’ll see what happens when I put food in his mouth.

We’re just very grateful it’s not something else. I was thinking it might be Fifth’s disease which is not something I really need to get while pregnant, but when he started “releasing” his food, I knew we were in the clear for the good ol’ nasty stomach bug that’s going around.

So, instead of traveling tomorrow (and possibly at all this weekend), we’ll be having Thanksgiving here again.

I’m off to start preparing our meal. I love traditional Thanksgiving food and even more so now that I’m confident I can make it!

Peck a Dee and For Gether

While walking around the neighborhood yesterday (yes, I’ve actually walked twice this week), Ace noticed a bird and said, “I think it’s a Peck-a-dee bird.”

He was pretty sure of himself. I told him I’d never heard of one of those.

He replied, “You know, it bangs it’s self up against a tree.”

“Oh,” I said. “I’ve heard of a woodpecker that does that.”

“Yes ma’am. A woodpecker Peck-a-dee,” he replied in a matter of fact manner.

***
We sent Liam and Ace to potty before supper one night this week and were surprised to hear the toilet flush one time and both boys came running back to the table.

“Liam (since he’s usually the one who won’t go), did you go potty.”

“Yes ma’am.”

“Did you flush?”

“Yes ma’am.”

“But you both came back to the table at the same time.”

“Yes, we went ‘for’gether.” Liam told me.

Just picture this: Both boys will go potty at night before bath since there’s just something about getting nekkid and realizing you have to go potty (at least for them and confirmed by Mark), so they stand on either side of the potty and go. I know that’s really probably redneck but it saves the trouble of one doing a “holdin’ it” potty dance or running to our bathroom to go. So now, that’s the thing for Liam. Especially if Ace is in the bathroom at the same time. He announces that they need to go “for” gether. Ace sweetly corrects him that it’s together. Ace also is not very good at watching what he’s doing…hmmm. I’m hoping this will encourage Liam on our adventures to get him completely potty trained!

I’ve mentioned to Mark, more than once, that I wished the boys’ bathroom was a little bigger so we could install a urinal. Oh well…just dreaming!

When I Grow Up

I love lunchtime conversations:

Ace: I’m going to be a daddy when I grow up.

Me: What else? You have to support your family.

Ace: Actually, I’m going to be a cowboy.

Zoe: You have to move to a different country to be a cowboy.

Ace: I have to move to Alabama and be a cowboy.

There ya have it. Alabama is another country and it’s the only place you can go to be a cowboy. He also said he wanted sixteen (first he wanted to know if that was a number)…no, four, no, twins, no actually one, no, four, no, five, no four…children.

Ace’s Stats…

Just back from the doctor for Ace’s 4 year check up and he’s a growing boy! He’s dropped down in his weight (which is a good thing) and tracking right on the curve for his BMI.

His weight is 43 1/2 lbs (93%…down from 97%); 40 3/4 inches tall (60%)

He did really well. Cried during shots but he survived them. Luckily there was a toy at the end. Not much else to report.

Dr. B concluded that he probably did have a fungus on his arm and told us to continue to use the anti-fungal cream (better known as jock itch) on it. It looks a lot better than it did on Monday or even Tuesday. It’s not red nor feverish to touch.
