You Know It’s Time to Start Potty Training When…

First of all, I’m sorry for not posting sooner…everyone is well…it’s just hard trying to get back into our routine and get grain, etc.

But, I just had to post on a Liam funny that I remember last night during our Truth Project home group…

On the way home from Tampa last week, I heard Liam grunting. I looked back to see his face beet red and his eyes watering. He was straining to say the least.

“Are you okay, buddy?” I asked.
His normal color returned to his face and he looked at me as serious as can be.
“Diaper time, mommy, daddy,” he said.

I know that potty training should be in full force. I believe I’ll put that on hold in the midst of finishing up MOPS, fundraising, homeschooling, chauffering, etc.

Seriously, I’m planning on really working on it with him during spring break…at the latest, June.

A Look Back…

I thought I would take a bulleted look back at our very eventful week in Tampa. Keep in mind that Mark was in training from about 8:30 to 5 each day.

1. Josiah got sick…fever, congestion, etc.
2. Josiah got his third tooth and is working on his fourth.
3. Zoe lost her first tooth.
4. We visited the zoo and used our Answers in Genesis Zoo Guide (great to help with the evolution facts).
5. It got extremely humid hot at the zoo so I led the kids to their water play area and they got soaked. Ace loved the water and was soaking wet. Zoe got very upset that she was wet. Liam loved it until he mimicked the other boys playing by sticking their head in the water. He tried it and got a mouthful of it. He was done after that.
6. We got to see manatees at the zoo. They were so cute and eating lettuce with their fins (once the camera’s fixed…see another bullet below…then I’ll show them to everyone). And, contrary, belief, it’s slightly impossible for an elephant and manatee to be related.
7. We went to the Museum of Science and Industry and while they had a ton of evolution stuff they had this really cool floor called Disasterville. It was all about natural disasters. They had houses set up to simulate different disasters. The first one we went to was a tornado and it was set up as a basement with flat screens for windows that showed the tornado. Zoe didn’t like that too much because the lights went out and the sound was loud. Ace loved it. The hurricane was okay. But the hit for the boys was the fire room. We walked in there (Zoe hid around the corner) and Liam announced to everyone, “fire…hot hot…no touch.” Also a big kid hit was the “Kids in Charge” with all hands on playthings.
8. I’m still not a big fan of taking my kids to museums because they run from one exhibit to the next just touching things. They ask about it and as I open my mouth they run to the next exhibit! But, when you buy a museum membership and your locked in a hotel room, it’s worth it. We bought a local museum membership and they were part of the same group so we got in free to this museum. We went to the museum twice and basically paid for our local membership.
9. We ate at LeeRoy Selmon’s…that’s for all you football fans!
10. We went to the Florida Aquarium and even though Josiah had been screaming the past two nights for several hours, that was our favorite trip. We spent the whole day there playing in their outdoor play area, watching dive shows, and seeing two penguins up close…very cool. Zoe was so amazed by everything. She even petted a sting ray and invertebrates. Not too much evolution preached and a great opportunity to talk about conservation and our need to take care of what God has given us!
11. We used disposable diapers while we were there since we didn’t have direct access to a washing machine. Disposables are much slimmer than our cloth diapers. I didn’t think about that and thought that Liam could actually go up to 2T and 24 mth cloths. He can in shirts. I know that now. Pants…still need to be 18 mths. He wore a pair of 24 mth jeans to the aquarium and subsequently spent the whole time playing and holding them up. He did good until we got in the elevator at the hotel and the pants dropped…with other people on the elevator. They got a kick out of it and helped him get them back up. Oops!
12. While Mark was finishing training on Friday, I took the kids back to the museum. We were trying to get lunch so we could go, Josiah was screaming, and I was trying to hurry. The digital camera had been strategically placed on the stroller awning. I bumped the stroller, down came the camera. I broke it. Mark’s on search now for a new camera. Any suggestions may be accepted, although I’m encouraging him to find it fast. 8 month olds start doing tricks without warning.
13. So we arrived back home safe and sound just before midnight on Friday. We were glad to be back. They all traveled well and had fun

I’ll post pics later this week!

Better This Afternoon

We didn’t have to go to the doctor. Right as I was dropping Mark off, our pediatrician called (I thank God for her…if we ever have to leave…I’m kidnapping her…okay, I’ll pray that we can find someone half as good as her.) Anyway, she recommended that we try otc and if he ran a fever she would call in an antibiotic. I begged for a suggestion to help him sleep and she obliged…we’ll see how tonight goes.

Lots of fun today! I’ll post pictures this weekend from all our adventures.

One Tough Germ

Ace has had a cold/cough for about a week now. He was playing with Josiah on Sunday before church and accidentally coughed…all over him.

Fast forward to Monday and Josiah is now coughing/runny nose/feverish. Isn’t it lovely??

Did I mention that one of his top teeth is almost through?

Oh, and did I mention we are out of town with Mark on business training?

Ken Ham is Coming, Ken Ham is Comming!!!

We’re having a conference starting today at our church from Answers in Genesis! Can you tell I’m excited? Mark stayed home this morning so I could take Zoe to the school conference in the am and then we’ll be going tonight and tomorrow.

Now, for a potty update. Liam has no clue when he goes so I’m just letting him sit on it when he wants to and he goes, etc.

Everyone is sleeping better. Josiah is still waking up at 4 am on the dot and won’t go back to sleep until he snacks (not even ten minutes today) but he sleeps until 6:30 or 7.

I think that’s all the updates. I’ll post more later. Gotta go start some bread.

Since I’ve Lost My Mind, part 1

I might as well start this off as a series and add to it when I’ve done something completely silly.

So, our night went like this…Mark got up with Liam somewhere around 2:30 because he was screaming and crying, inconsolably. When he walked out of the room with him so that Liam wouldn’t wake up Josiah, Josiah woke up. I traded off with Mark and got Liam while he tried to get Josiah to sleep and then he met me in the hallway because Ace was running a fever. So we got drugs for Ace. I got Liam to lay down with me and Mark settled in with Josiah who was now screaming his head off (but not literally, it’s still attached). Liam tossed and turned and fussed and every time I almost drifted off to sleep, he would fuss or say something. This continued until we gave up on Josiah and I tried to nurse him around 5. I got him down and went to lay down while Ace started coughing. Again, trying to keep Josiah from waking up (I mean screaming) anymore, Mark took Ace (Mark decided to go in late to work…4 hours of sleep makes it hard to concentrate) into the living room and I tried to get some sleep with Liam. And I listened to Josiah play for about thirty minutes and then when he fussed, I gave him drugs (he is teething okay) and went back to lay down and finally got about an hour’s sleep after that!

With all that in mind, I decided we’d try our hand at potty training Liam. We’ve been through three training pants and one pair of underwear. The one pair of undies doesn’t count because he was sitting on the potty watching “It’s Potty Time (can you say funny)” and he didn’t realize he was spraying the floor where his undies were. He’s kept his second pair of undies dry but I had to put him in a diaper for nap time…ain’t no way I’m cleaning up my bed because he went while he was sleeping. Zoe and Ace are really encouraging but the main motivator is the candy! He sat on the potty before nap time eyeing the candy jar. We’ll see if we continue with this. I’m wondering if he wets his pants one time he’ll realize what he’s doing. If not, then I probably won’t continue for another month or so. I’m not sure he really has bladder control yet. And I don’t want to spend who knows how many months waiting for him to get it and running around with extra pants, clothes, and towels! “My hands are full” enough right now.

Valentine’s Day

I bet ya’ll are all wondering what we did for Valentine’s day…or maybe not!

As usual, our holiday was no where near usual.

The kids and I had MOPS in the morning. We had a chocolate tasting at the meeting. Yummy fun (except for the dark chocolate…yick).

When we got home, I noticed that Liam was acting funny and wanting me to hold him a lot. I checked his temp and it was up! He had just finished an antibiotic on Monday for a sinus infection. I called my pharmacist/best friend, and she advised me to call the doc. He had also started coughing a good bit the day before and through the night. Dr. B called in another antibiotic that has to go 10 days. (by the way, he’s doing pretty good and not running a fever anymore).

So, when they got up from their nap I loaded everyone in the car and we went to get: medicine, a movie, and pizza.

And, we spent our Valentine’s day watching a movie and eating pizza. Lots of fun! We love doing family stuff for Valentine’s day.

Lest you think that Mark and I did not acknowledge our love for each other with gifts…we did…sort of. I got him his usual, Peanut M&Ms and he got me my usual, Chocolate Turtles (that had amazingly disappeared by Sunday…that took a lot of self-control). He also (which he was not supposed to) got me the itunes of Michael Buble (see below), and a guitar stand to hang my great aunt’s guitar.

Oh, did I mention I got to go to a spa for a manicure and pedicure and I got to get my haircut all on Friday! Ahhh, pampered me. What a great hubby I have!

Love ya Babe!

I’m telling…

On myself. Since I post about the silly absentmindedness of our family…I thought I would share what I just did!

We were herding them all into the house after church tonight and Liam was tagging along. I was so certain that he made it in front of me as I carried bags and Mark carried Josiah. I kept hearing a noise but thought the neighbors were doing something so I came on in and closed the door.

Then I thought Liam was in the room with Mark while I got some stuff ready for bedtime, so I didn’t think anything of it…except that it was unusually quiet.

I guess Mark heard him, however, because when I went into get Josiah ready for bed (and Liam, although he wasn’t in the room) he got up and went to the door. There was Liam banging on it with a toy and yelling at us to let him in.

In my defense, it was dark out and I’m pretty tired! In my defense, he should have done what I told him and walked up to the house! This has been a first in our household!

And, while I’m tattling, I’ll tell that Mark almost left Josiah one day when he was taking the troupe to a store.
