Home

We are home!  We are settled and Malachi is getting used to the noises in our house…because we have just a few.  I’m on rest for all of this week and praying I can get up and go a bit by next week.  For now, Mark is Mr. Mom and Dad.  And I need to get him in his Super man cape once again.

And we are totally in love.  All of us are.  I watched with sheer joy as the kids passed around a sleeping Malachi.  They each showed such love and care for their youngest brother and it made this mama’s heart swell with pride.  We have a glider and ottoman in our room.  There’s not room to actually use the ottoman as a foot rest so I have it beside the glider and more often than not, if I’m nursing Malachi in the glider, Ceili Rain is sitting beside me talking or asking questions.  Josiah loves to quietly come in the room and watch Malachi sleep.
We took him to a newborn well check today.  When we left the hospital, he weighed 8 lbs 13 oz.  That was Monday morning.  Today, Tuesday morning, when they weighed him, he was 9 lbs. 7 oz.  I believe home agrees with him.
And it does with his mommy too.
I’m working on his birth story and my opinions about c-sections…so they’ll be up in the next day or two.  I’m fighting an infection (yet another side effect to c-sections…but praising God for antibiotics), so that might slow me down a bit.

Picture update

Fresh out of the womb, and not terribly excited about it.  As soon as he came out, he gave a nice, loud cry to make Mommy feel extra special and relieved.

After being cleaned up a little, Daddy got to love on him on the way to see Mommy.
Daddy got to show him to Mommy up close and personal.  She was delighted.
Special thanks to the anesthesia personnel in the OR with us who took these pictures and seemed to really enjoy doing it.
Papa & Grandmere brought the kids over after the all clear was given and they were fed.
Ge & Granddaddy arrived just after he was born and got to love on him before Abbie made it back from the surgery suite.
Daddy got to carry him back to our labor room and watch the nurse finish the cleanup and checkout procedures.  She also weighed him at this point and we found out just how big this stinker is!

He thought it would be really cool to show just how big his feet are by spreading his toes as far apart as possible.

More Ge and Granddaddy love for Mommy and Malachi.

Mom’s first words as she rolled into the room: “Give me my baby!”  So we did!
Malachi meets his brothers and sisters!

Ace was very excited.

Ceili Rain holds Malachi.

Liam was pretty curious about his new buddy.

Josiah was very sweet and all smiles.

Zoe is checking him out.

Bryant wasn’t sure what to think.  Zoe starting to warm up to him.
By the way, did you notice the common thread among the Malachi-meets-his-siblings pictures?
Go look.  Now.  Closely. But don’t worry about the last one….
Did you look yet?  Really.  Do it.
OK, Ceili Rain is the common denominator.  She stayed put in that chair until forced out so she could keep an eye on Malachi.
OK, more pictures…
Mommy love…

Bryant got to play with Granddaddy.

Mom, Dad, and Malachi.
Thank you, God, for this new blessing in our family.

What a day

Well, what a day.
We have gone from the high of very smooth contractions that seemed to be doing their job to the low of being concerned because little man wouldn’t move down into position.
Abbie will give you all the details, but the short version is that Mr. Malachi would have been born by 12:30 if his head had been situated correctly. Instead of getting into a tuck position, he decided to try to see where he was going. That meant that instead of the back of his head going first, his forehead and half his face was coming out first.
So, with our great doctor being very patient with the situation and giving us his best advice, we have now done the whole C-section experience.
We praise God for His protection and wisdom yesterday. He really gave us peace along the way as we prayed and sought Him.
Through it all, my sweet and amazing wife was strong and sweet and brave. I am so incredibly proud of her. I couldn’t count the number of times the doctors and nurses were complimentary of her endurance and attitude.
So, for the morning after update, Malachi is doing very well, is nursing like a champ, and gave us a 4 hour stretch to rest. Abbie has been able to rest of and on, and seems to be recovering smoothly.
Thanks for all your prayers yesterday and encouragement. Abbie specifically mentioned how nice that was and how she appreciated it.
More pictures to follow when possible.

Turning?

3:06pm
Just got checked by nurse. She says he is in a better position but still not ideal. Dr. J to check again in about 20 minutes. He’s doing procedure right now on another patient. Mom and M. are doing fine.
Once again the doctors and nurses are amazed at her awesome perseverance and attitude. She is amazing.

Little stinker is not situated right. He gets 30 minutes to straighten up, then possible turning by the doc. If no go, then csection. She is getting epidural in case. Pray he twists. Or he may be moving now… Pray!
