Celebrating Christmas

As, I stated in an earlier post, this season was really special for us. Christmas is all about birth and I really feel that what Emmie has been through has, hopefully, given her new life…a new birth. What a blessing to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the one who gave everything to give us eternal life. And if felt, at the same time, we were able to celebrate the new birth for our Emmie! Oh how I pray it is a new birth and new life for her!

Our Christmas Eve was busy but fun!

Several kids made gifts for each other. This was a sweet present from Ceili Rain.

I love it when we catch their excited reactions to gifts.

Zoe wanted to get Mark a fun t-shirt. She was this and just knew he needed it. It’s from Animaniacs’ Pinky and the Brain. Any time the kids ask what we’re doing, Mark responds with this. Every. Single. Time.

The kids asked for an upgrade from our archaic Wii to a less archaic Wii U. We totally surprised them because they opened all of their gifts (which were labeled with random numbers that I kept a legend of) and it wasn’t in there. We told them to make sure we had opened every gift and to check the tree. In the tree was an envelope that sent them all around the house for clues and ended with them having to recite our church’s memory passage before getting their gift. They were ecstatic.

Tot was clearly amused.
Tobin was all Christmased out.

I guess you can imagine what most of the rest of the day involved.

Merry Christmas with the Grands

The people we can blame thank for making me who I am today. I so love my parents!

WE had so much to celebrate this Christmas season! Emmie reminds us that every day should be celebrated and getting a chance to celebrate Christmas with family reminded us how thankful we were to have everyone gathered around amidst the fun and chaos.

My sister and I are only 18 months apart and we still know how to be goofy! We were working hard to get rid of our middle age chins and Uncle J participated too. Mark was the only one who didn’t need to worry about that double chin though. He’s such a young whipper snapper.

Aunt E, Uncle J and J and E…all grown up!
The Dirty Dozen! Twelve cousins and we can see all of their faces! Win!

Ace decided a selfie was in order while were getting group pictures.

Best Christmas gift for the grands from Aunt E and Uncle J. Granddaddy, naturally called for a s’mores fest after they got it going.

Present time! The kids each open one gift all at once and then show everyone what they got. They keep going until their done. Us adults have a blast watching them and often forget to open any of our gifts!

Papa and Grandmere came to visit around Zoe’s birthday! They enjoy their annual calendar every year!

And the kids loved their treats from Papa and Grandmere! Emmie protected the candy for everyone.

Our Little Neighborhood

Several years ago, we discovered these wonderful gingerbread houses kit. It comes with four houses and it’s worth every penny for the kids to each have their own house to decorate. So, it’s obviously become a big tradition and the kids have reminded me every year. Here are our creations from this previous year!

Yes. One of the houses had catastrophe. I don”t think that hairbrush was involved though.

Mine is the decorative one in the front. Mark did the one in background….that looks like it’s been in a blizzard.

One of the main things we learned for next year, is to assemble the houses the night BEFORE the decorating. There were lots of tears and frustration trying to put them together.

It’s Beginning to Look Like

I know it’s a new year but we’re still a little over a month behind and slowly catching up! Let’s pretend that we’re still back in 2018.

Our trip to the Christmas tree farm was, as always, full of lots of laughter. This time, though, we broke the record for the fastest selection of a tree. It was beautiful and just barely made it to Christmas day!

The kids have enjoyed checking their growth to the Christmas tree over the years. This farm has been our go-to farm for several years now and each time it has always been very memorable.

Mark secured it tightly to keep it from tipping over. It was lopsided but we all have really enjoyed it.

Tobin helped Mark with the lights.

A Bunch On Ice

Emmie performed at a local festivity with her Steps of Grace ballet group.  As a reward, they gave the performers a ticket to come back.  I had declined the tickets because the event is very expensive (and included ice skating among other activities).  They surprised us by gifting us tickets for everyone!  So, the day after Christmas, we headed out.  We had some reluctant skaters but we told them that EVERYONE would at least try one time around.
Emmie was a trooper but one time was enough. After a couple of rounds with the guard, several of our kids took off.

It was fun but we realized pretty quickly that we are very grateful we didn’t invest the money in tickets.  Only a few actually skated for more than ten minutes. This is good to know for future ice skating trips.Facebooktwittermail

Merry Christmas!

In April no less!

Emmie begged for Lazy Lights aka Laser Lights.  I convinced Mark that they were a small investment for a big thrill.  He reluctantly consented.   Then he asked for a family movie night to watch Polar Express.  We had hot chocolate, sweet treats and broke out our Christmas pjs! Christmas day and our annual picture by the tree. Tobin was obviously impressed by the festivities. Mark decided a few years ago to start a Fonatini collection.  I look forward to what he adds to it every year. Sleeping baby cuddles…yes!  Even if I was getting choked!

Right after Christmas, our “god” daughter and her family sent us a yummy treat box!  Everyone was excited at all the fun stuff! Facebooktwittermail

P & G Christmas

We enjoyed a Papa and Grandmere visit right before Christmas.   Chess is always a must when they visit. We celebrated Zoe’s birthday… And Liam’s Grandmere helped with our annual pretzel dipping. Papa & Grandmere gifted us with a Fuf!  Ya’ll this thing is huge but awesome.  It’s stuffed with memory foam so it never has to be refilled. Tobin got some sweet cuddles too.

Christmas Randoms

Here lies a collection of our December activities that are too few to take up their own.  Enjoy!
A local church puts on a lights display that is insanely busy and huge…This was our second trip.  We didn’t get a chance to go last year but made sure we could get over there this year. Our local town’s Christmas parade is very near our house.  When we were parking and unloading, we noticed another large and familiar van…that of our neighbor’s.  Camping out with another large family, we also met yet another large family.  Naturally, we had to round up as many of our kids as we could to get a quick picture.  Nope, this isn’t all of them.  I think there were about 26 in all (but some kids were marching in the parade). Our church’s Christmas party meant Tobin got lots of snuggles. Mark and I were in charge of coming up with games and the cling wrap game was a must.  Wrap up gifts in cling wrap until you make a big ball.  The person sitting next to you rolls the dice.  When they hit a double, you pass the cling wrap ball to that person etc.
Aside from goofy things like a pack of silly moustaches, we also hid a gift card to a nice restaurant.  Facebooktwittermail

Let it Snow…In Atlanta

We were blessed to be able to visit our family in Atlanta the weekend it snowed.  The weekend it snowed, it happened to snow over 8 inches!  Driving in the day after the snow was a bit worrisome but we made it fine for our Christmas celebrations with some of Abbie’s side of the family. Going up the very snowed over driveway.  We didn’t dare try to make it all the way around and stopped before it got really icy. Emmie was beside herself.  As soon as we saw the white stuff, she started making plans.  “Somebody’s going to frow snow in my face.  Aggghh  Din we can build a snowman and knock it down and build it again.  Maybe we can cwimb on da cars and get more snow.” Tobin meeting his Aunt Yaya for the first time. Cousin J loves to cuddle up with Emmie. He and Abbie’s cousin-in-law were pretty smitten with Tobin too. Enough with the indoors…time to head outside and get cold! Emmie wanted to throw snow at Ace.  Here she is “throwing” snow at Ace. The main snowman. Emmie and Malachi’s snowman. An attempt at a really big snowman. Cousin E and Aunt Yaya getting some loving.

When we left that evening…it was still very snow covered and beautiful!Facebooktwittermail
